Step Back, Reorganize, Focus – CHARGE!

getting organizedIf you look at the time between my last post and this one, you might just wonder where I’ve been.  The past 4-6 weeks have been jam-packed with new business, new friends, new training and new challenges!  It’s been all GO GO GO, no rest, but lots of results and then all of a sudden…BAM!  Right into that wall!!  It’s not that your business has declined or you lost your motivation, it’s just that you wake up one morning and your head is swimming.  So many things to do and they all need to be done, right away.  Next thing you know you’re standing in the middle of your kitchen, frig door open, wondering what you are doing in here.  Uh, or is that just me?

For those of us that work in Social Media, or if you have your own business and use Social Media to promote it, this happens quite often.  What I mean is that we are always “plugged-in”.  Always connected to our customers, our friends, our families, our projects, our training, and these days, even those things that would normally relax us (see Kindle).

It is at this time that we need to slow down, step back, and BREATHE.  But before we can do this we will need to unplug.  Focus on ourselves, even if it is just for a few hours, and get rid of those voices in our heads, on our phones, our laptops, our tablets, our TV’s and yes our “books”.  Take a walk, workout, garden, do some crafts with the kids, or reading an actual book that people can’t use to find you!  Personally, I like to put on some music, have a glass of wine, and cook dinner for my family.  Nothing works better for me than that.

Then, when you can no longer hear the voices, sit down and reorganize your personal and business life.  That may be in a few hours or if you’re on overload it may be the next day.  But you’ll have a clearer head and a much better attitude, which will lead to better decisions on how to handle everything.  Now you are ready to focus on everyone else again!

This isn’t a post to tell you if you should hire assistants to help with your business, or to outsource some work to lighten the load.  I think we all know how to do that.  I just wanted to remind all of us that it’s okay to unplug from time to time.  That the world will keep spinning and it will be there when you get back.
